LEGEND OF ST. PATRICK: St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, used the shamrock to explain the concept of the Trinity [Father, Son and Holy Spirit] to the pagans. Legend says that he drove all of the snakes into the sea, eliminating them from Ireland. He is thought to be buried in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland. Every year, on the last Sunday in July, hundreds of people make the pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick [Patrick’s Hill] in Westport, Co. Mayo., where St. Patrick spent 40 days of Lent praying and fasting.
GREEN BEER: Here in America, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated mostly with wimpy Coor’s Light or Budweiser, tainted with green food coloring. If you’d like to celebrate like a real Irishman, drink a pint of Guinness. There’s no comparison!
