thoughts...
I was brought up to believe that “Jesus loves the little children…all the children of the world…red, yellow, black and white their all precious in his sight“…yet I watched the nightly news circa 1968 and saw blacks, young children, men and women being attacked by dogs….being hosed down, tear gassed, kicked and beaten for no reason, other than the color of their skin.

I sang “we shall overcome, we shall overcome, someday” with my elementary school music teacher, Ms. Parsons, not realizing the impact it held in 1968 America. I remember the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy…the reaction and emotions of my teachers resonated such sorrow; MY country echoed affliction and grief. There was sadness and disappointments...remorse and heartbreak. What an era to grow up in...yet, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It’s impact and its influence on my life and ideals are immeasurable.

Today…2009...41 years later, we’ve come a long way since 1968. I look in awe at the opportunities and freedoms given to people of color…opportunities that MY SONS will be recipients of because of the fight and struggles of those that paved the way. I hope and pray that they won’t be judged by the color of their skin…but by the character of their heart.

Our country has come a long way…we HAVE come a long way babeeeeee!!! We have come a distance, yet still have a ways to go. I was so proud that Antonio and I voted for President TOGETHER this past November!!! He was able to cast his vote without repercussions or judgment. It was an emotional day for me...yet taken lightly by him....does the youth of today take their freedoms for granted?!

On the eve of his historic inauguration as the nation's FIRST African-American commander-in-chief takes office, I stand proud, hopeful and excited, that MY country will come together and embrace change…embrace a new beginning of leadership, courage and humility. Let his calls from the mountain top bring Americans together; EVERYONE ...red, yellow, black, white, straight, gay....cuz we're all precious in His sight.

purging the negativity

Negative energies can be found all around us and it has many different guises.
I believe that negative energies are dark clouds hovering above us and around us. Sadly, these negative energies can lead a person to suffer the blues and consume their very being. How is it that we let ourselves get caught up in these negative thoughts? Why is is always easier to think of the "bad" things instead of the "good"?

I truly feel that in order to deter negative thought energy one must consciously make an effort to refrain from negative thinking. When approached by others who seem to be deeply embedded in negative thoughts, conversation, and actions, it is important not to get caught in the trap of delving into THEIR stuff, shit, I don't need their negative vibe!!! Have you ever felt the effect of someone's negative energy? Picked up on their
judgmental thoughts, gossip or misery? One of the reason's I NO longer have lunch at the teacher's lounge at school is because I don't want to listen some of these people talk. Their behavior, thoughts and actions are toxic.
On my venture to purge during the month of March...one that I believe that is essential is walking away from negativity. When approached with those energies, counteract them with love...compassion...and hope.

So now, instead of spending so much energy being negative, use it being positive, hoping and working for the better.

I've made the decision to channel my energy into positive directions—we never know what kind of ripple effect our actions have—but we do know that positive energy breeds more positive energy.

purging the anger

I attended therapy today…yeah, I had to attend another session. I honestly thought that it would be a waste of time and energy, but, this session was ACTUALLY for lack of a better word…therapeutic! LOL

It was just my ex-husband and I today. Tyrone felt that he needed to get to the core of why I felt so angry towards him…and found out he did.

Sadly, my ex-husband is probably the only person on this entire Earth that can bring out the worst in me. Seriously…I am a very loving, giving and nurturing woman, but get me in the room with this man, and I can change at a drop of a dime. I’ve been able to control and channel this anger as years have gone by, but today I learned that he’s not worth my energy, I am no longer a victim in his games…lies or deception.

Today, March 3, 2008, I let go of the anger and resentment towards him. I flushed out the bullshit. I did away with the bitterness and hate….yes, I know hate…but who am I kidding if I’m not honest with myself…right? I was able to let go of the past hurts and disloyalties. He fucked up, not me. I remember that early in my divorce, anger was my motivation to help me move on…it propelled me into new avenues that would help me financially. I was able to take on tutoring gigs that would help with the mortgage…my car payment…etc. But anger also began to take control of me. My self-esteem was suffering, my relationship with family and friends became isolated and I was feeling bitter towards everyone. I was not happy...

*SIGH*

Mi gente, today I let go of that 1000 lb. anvil sitting on my neck.... I WILL NEVER AGAIN…NEVER AGAIN, grant anyone that power over me.

Besos mi gente...

purging the clutter

I spent this Saturday cleaning out my closet and purging many unwanted items. This was a project that was long overdue, and I finally set aside the time for it. It seemed a daunting project at first, but it felt really good to sort through and purge those old items.
It had finally become too unbearable to go on with out taking some serious action. I couldn't exist any longer with a pile of clothes and hangers two and a half feet high on my dresser, obstructing my view of the closet door and quite literally burying me alive. In a four and-a-half hour whirlwind of activity, I sent boxes of clothes to the garage for donations, trashed unnecessary materials, organized my shelves and shoes. Splendid. Now, let's see if I can keep my room decluttered at least through the end of March. It would be an amazing feat but I feel strong, focused, and motivated. After purging the clutter from my room, we set out to celebrate my brother-in-laws 54th birthday. My sister Nuria had a couple of gentleman come out to the house and make a Spanish Paella with all the fixings. YUMM-O. As always our family gatherings are fun and exciting...I had a lil too much sangria and beer and Antonio had to drive home!

Have a blessed what's left of your Sunday day....

Besos mi gente...

Black History Month

We had our closing assembly for Black History Month this morning. The program was excellent. We had a special guest speaker come to the school, a soloist, a dance group, and a Negro spiritual sing-a-long for the boys and girls.
