Elmo's Voice

This is the first time Muppeteer Kevin Clash has appeared with Elmo! Kevin says he became the voice of Elmo after another Muppeteer turned down the opportunity. "He didn't like it," Kevin says. "It was too cutesy for him."If you're surprised by the big guy behind the little voice, you're not alone. "It's wild," Kevin says. "[People] expect me to be a little, short bald-headed guy with glasses."

Eyes

A child is only little for such a little while
Their world is interpreted by your expressions
Please always try to smile
Your eyes are the mirror of how they see their own self worth
From the moment they look up at you, beginning with their birth
Continuing on as the days slip by
They will search your face to see
Am I ok?
Am I good?
Will they always cherish me?
What will look back at them, will eyes of love be there?
When grown up will their memory be one of tender care?
These precious years will fly by so very, very fast
Before we even blink our eyes the present is the past
The time to help them love themselves is now while they are small
Because in your eyes they see you as the biggest judge of all
They will carry into adulthood the reflections from your eyes
Measuring their own self worth, they won't think to realize
That how you treated them in their early years
Reflects a happy life or one that's filled with tears
Insecurities and doubt will no doubt plague them as well
So let your eyes express your love, it's how a child can tell.

A Child's Eyes
Have you ever looked into a child's eyes,
And seen the love that they have inside.
They don't care if your black or white,
Just show them attention and do what's right.
Give them a smile, a compliment, a grin,
A hug, a high five, or whatever is within.
It doesn't take much for a child who's hurting,
To open up and tell you their story.
Give them your time and listen real closely,
Cause the child who talks, is the child who's lonely.
Be there to listen or just shed a tear,
Be a shoulder to cry on when no one else is near.
Do what you can to help the hurt go away,
Bring them a smile to brighten their day.
If I have learned anything working with children,
It's to look deep inside and be sensitive to their feelings.
Try to support them and be on their side,
Show them all love and build up their pride.
Pray for them when their on your mind,
And let God put that sparkle back in their eye.

Why?
You know that when you find yourself asking rhetorical “why” questions, which are always unanswerable, that it’s a sign that you’ve been holding on to some belief that’s not true. That conflicts with reality. Like “Why did this happen to ME??” is really a belief in “bad things only happen to bad people - or other people”. Like the Universe is really conspiring to cause you problems. As if you ought to be immune from the slings and arrows. Like you’re the only one in the world that shouldn’t have a bad day. Or “How could you do or say xyz”? As if other people should know what you’re thinking and what all your triggers are. Or like you don’t source all of your pain anyway. Like you didn’t create the Universe in the first place so you could play at being bitter in it.

There's too much eye candy to keep you from wandering.

Self-Indulgent Post About Me...
Where I am now

Where I want to be

I’ve been told that I’m too intense, I over-think, over-react, and over-whelm. In a similar vein, some have suggested that my blog posts are all over the place, not necessarily in a bad way; more like a roller coaster ride. My moods, thoughts, desires, and motivations are reflected in my irratic writing. Sometimes its a scary, thrilling, funny, painful, poignant unpredictable twisty-turny-up & down trip, slowing briefly only to start up again on another round. Such is my nature. I love it. I hate it. I tolerate it. I cherish it. I feel confused.

The last few months have been a time of extraordinary growth and change. Volumes, gallons, miles, buckets of activity have been going on in my head while I go about my day-to-day maintenance of the basic necessities. I’m learning to accept myself ... dare I say it, even love myself. I’m learning to lean on my friends without guilt. I’m learning to expect more from life rather than settling due to shameful feelings based on real and imagined inadequacies. Even though I’m not free to be completely open and forthcoming, my blog is one of the few places I feel safe to be completely honest about such things.

My life will be changing even more in the near future. I’m getting my house in order, both literally and figuratively. Important things that I really want are finally within my grasp. As such, it's going to get worse before it gets better. Huge changes mean huge adjustments, even when they're good changes.

In the meantime, life inside my head feels less like a roller coaster and more like a trampoline. If you’re gonna stick this out with me, I suggest you pick up a box of Dramamine.

Smelling sweet
Ohhhh I smell sweet, so fresh!! Yup, the sweetest I have smelled in a loooong dayum time. You wanna come and take a wiff of my new alluring aroma!! I reek of Vicks Vapor Rub! I remember as a lil chica that mom use to rub globs and globs of this shit all over my chest. I hated the smell then, and I still do now...but there is something about it that can make a chica feel a tad better.

I just finished up with the meds. Thank goodness that I still had the nebulizer. The boys use to wear the shit outta this machine when they were younger. Only until recently did we start using it again. Big T first last month when he got sick and now me! My chest hurts, my throat hurts, my neck hurts. Thank the good Lord up above that I could stay home today! WOO HOO for President's Day.

I left a message for LexLu letting him know that I wasn't goin to be able to make our date...he didn't answer then and he hasn't returned my call as of 5:50 a.m. If he believes me fine, and if he does thats okay too. I've been nothing but honest with him. I was reading my friend Chrystal's blog this morning and what she has to say is so true...
"The fastest way to lose someone's loyalty is to lie to him or her. Deceit equals arrogance, which is the opposite of humility. Even if the person does not like the news, your truthfulness speaks volumes and communicates an important message: YOU CAN BE TRUSTED. Moreover, people will take their chances with someone who is trustworthy over someone who tells them what they want to hear or tries to cover up something......Honestly illuminates fine character like a beacon in a fog of phonies."

I have nothing to lie about to him. That I unfortunately got sick when I finally decided to say *yes* and meet him was just plain bad timing. Well, we will see what the verdict is on this. I am not goin to worry about that. I need to get my fat ass feeling better and 100% again. I hate this dating shit. It's a fat fuckin mess.

I have a date tomorrow...
I feel like a young chica...stupid, immature and indecisive. Why has it taken me so long to accept this date, this invite for lunch and drinks? This has been a mind boggling-emotional decision to make....but thanks to the wonderful advice of my sis, Nan and Keener, I've accepted the invitation to go out with LexLu.

I have been chatting/talking/texting LexLu for a little over 3 weeks now. We were supposed to meet up last Saturday for drinks, but I chickened out at the last minute and told him I had a prior engagement that had totally slipped my mind. I know I'm an ass. Don't send me *hate mail* I just need time, time to get back into the scene of actually going out and doing something for me.

LexLu is an engineer; he's smart, articulate, attractive [according to the pics he sent me], lives no more than 40 min away, owns his house, financially secure...and he's got jokes. Any man that can make this chica laugh has at least a foot in the door. There’s chemistry there…which is a positive.
We're meeting at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Ft. Lauderdale. It's an open, public place ... I KNOW I will be ok...my women's intuition tells me that I will...then why am I scared, why am I so nervous?

Does my past haunt me? Do images of Kevin's creeping around still trouble me? Do the millions of lies I uncovered about him still playback in the back of my mind? Can I ever -- will I ever be able to trust a man again? I giess I will never know unless I start dating and give someone the opportunity of getting close to me. I need to let my guard down just a tad…and let someone into my life. In the very least, I can have a buddy to go to the movies with, have a beer, salsa dancing…who knows?

When do we act our age?
Main Entry: 1ma·ture Pronunciation: m&-’tur, -’tyur also -’chur
Function: adjectiveInflected Form(s): ma·tur·er; -est
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin maturus ripe; akin to Latin mane in the morning, manus good
1 : based on slow careful consideration mature judgment>
2 a (1) : having completed natural growth and development : RIPE
(2) : having undergone maturation
b : having attained a final or desired state mature wine>
c : having achieved a low but stable growth rate mature industry>
3 a : of or relating to a condition of full development b : characteristic of or suitable to a mature individual mature outlook>
4 : due for payment mature loan>
5 : belonging to the middle portion of a cycle of erosion- ma·ture·ly adverb

That 2 a is ringing hard in my brain...to be honest, I really don’t have much to say on this topic.

Then why post the definition? Well, stay with me, bear with me, I have been talking to a friend and they are going through some shit with someone who I just want to tell them… grow the fuck up. I know that everyone matures at a different rate. That is just life and all of the situations that we have been through.

My question is…by the time we reach our 40's, shouldn’t we be passed the stuff that we did in elementary school, middle school, high school? When do we let things go? When do we become the bigger man or woman in a situation?

Yes, we have all been hurt, but acting like a spoiled rotten brat doesn’t mean that you are showing yourself in a positive light...and trying to turn a group of people against one person…that makes you look like an asshole.

In all honesty, we all have shit that has hurt us. We have all had to eat the humble pie that we have dished out for ourselves.

Hmph!

I really have an issue with the person who is believing the spoiled brat’s behavior. I really want to say grow the fuck up yourself, because it speaks highly of your mentality.

Okay, I have vented…and I feel better. I will never understand immaturity….and I really can’t stand it in “grown ass people”.

Crack is WACK!!!!!
Lights flash, alarm sounds. "Teachers, boy and girls, we are under a tornado watch. Please take appropriate cover"

Immediately the boys and girls know what to do. They all get under the desks…they're a lil nervous, but it's all under control. The classroom upstairs has to come downstairs and hunker down with us. Ms. B brings in her 5th grade class and we accommodate the children accordingly.

Ms. B. teaches a 5th grade ESE inclusion class. She has a young man by the name of Robert. Robert is a big boy. He's 12 years old and in 5th grade. He's got facial hair, the voice of Barry White and man boobs [he's got bigger boobs than me].

Anywho, my class is all quiet, they're underneath their desks...we begin to show and tell Ms. B's kids where to sit. Now, they have to kneel, cover their heads and get into a fetal position. Ohhhhh LAWD...getting Robert to do that was not going to happen.

"Ms. M, Ms. B, I can't do that"

Ms. B. responded, "Robert, you have to, come on, hurry"

We can hear the administrators next door, they're walking around to make sure that the drill is going accordingly.

"Ms. B, I can't cover my head"

"Okay Robert, don't cover your head just kneel and hunker down"

Robert knelt and hunkered down...

I walk over to look at Robert to make sure he's okay and I start to laugh...the next thing that comes outta my mouth is...

"Robert pull your shirt down, cuz crack is wack"

I lost it, Ms. B, lost it, the kids lost it and my Assistant Principal who was now standing next to me lost it! All we could do was laugh. Robert looked up at me and said

"Ms. M. I guess my new nickname is going to have to be cracky" he was laughing...what a good kid...

This was how I began my day...

Open Toe Shoe Rules
I promise to always wear sandals that fit. My toes will not hang over and touch the ground, nor will my heels spill over the backs. And the sides and tops of my feet will not protrude out between the straps.

I will go polish-free or vow to keep the polish fresh, intact and chip-free. I will not cheat and just touch up my big toe. I will sand down any mounds of skin before they turn hard and yellow.

I will shave the hairs off my big toe.

I won't wear pantyhose even if my misinformed girlfriend, coworker, mother, sister tells me the toe seam really will stay under my toes if I tuck it there.

If a strap breaks, I won't duct-tape, pin, glue or tuck it back into place hoping it will stay put. I will get my shoe fixed or toss it.

I will not live in corn denial; rather I will lean on my good friend Dr. Scholl's if my feet need him. I will resist the urge to buy jelly shoes at Payless for the low, low price of $4.99 even if my feet are small enough to fit into the kids' sizes This is out of concern for my safety, and the safety of others. No one can walk properly when standing in a pool of sweat and I would hate to take someone down with me as I fall and break my ankle.

I will take my toe ring off toward the end of the day if my toes swell and begin to look like Vienna sausages. If I have been privy to the magic that is Foot Soup; I will share that knowledge and experience with the non-initiated.

I will be brutally honest with my girlfriend / sister / coworker when she asks me if her feet are too ugly to wear sandals. Someone has to tell her that her toes are as long as my fingers and no sandal makes creepy feet look good.

I will promise if I wear flip flops that I will ensure that they actually flip and flop, making the correct noise while walking and I will swear NOT to slide or drag my feet while wearing them.

I will promise to go my local beauty school at least once per season and have a real pedicure (they are about $20 and worth EVERY penny). I will promise to throw away any white/off-white sandals that show signs of wear...nothing is tackier than dirty white sandals.

The Sweetest Thing
The Sweetest Thing

The sweetest thing I've ever known

Was like the kiss on a collar bone
The soft caress of happiness
The way you walk, your style of dress
I wish I didn't get so weak
Ooo baby, just to hear you speak
Makes me argue just to see
How much your in love with me
See, like a queen, a queen upon her throne
It was the sweet, sweet, sweetest thing I've known
It was the sweet, sweetest thing I've known
I get mad when you walk away
So I tell you leave when I mean stay
Warm as the sun dipped in black
Fingertips on small of my back
More valuable than all I own
Like your precious, precious, precious, precious baby dark skin tone
It was the sweet, the sweetest thing I've known
Was theI.....
I try to explain (I can't explain it, I can't explain it)
I..... but baby it's in vain
Sneaking on my mother's phone
The touch that makes me think
I'm grown
Sweet prince of the ghetto
Your kisses taste like Armaretto
Intoxicating (intoxicating),
oohh, so intoxicating (intoxicating)
How sad, how sad that all things come to an end
But then again
I, I'm not alone
It was the sweet, sweetest thing I've known
It was the sweet, sweetest thing I've known
I..... sometimes watch you in your sleep
I..... excuse me if I get too deep
It was the sweet, sweetest thing I've known

VICE PRESIDENT UNHURT IN HUNTING MISHAP
"IT WASN'T MY FAULT!", SAYS A RELIEVED DICK CHENEY.

While hunting quail on a Texas ranch Saturday evening, a shot from the Vice President's firearm struck a hunting companion, Harry Whittington, in the chest and face. Witnesses said the victim was standing behind the Vice President when the shot was fired."Cheney, Whittington and another hunter spotted a covey of quail. Whittington shot a bird and left to look for it as Cheney and the other hunter located a second covey and walked ahead of Whittington to take their shots".It was at this point that Whittington "came up from behind the vice president and the other hunter and didn't signal them or indicate to them or announce himself," a witness told Associated Press in an interview. "The covey flushed and the vice president picked out a bird and was following it and shot. And by God, Harry was in the line of fire and got peppered pretty good."

In a related incident, Eddie Eagle, mascot for the NRA Eddie Eagle Gunsafe Program, issued a press release clarifying this statement made last friday at a Dallas elementary school:"Normally, the only way a hunting partner can be blamed for getting shot is if he shoots himself. The bottom line is if you have a hunting partner, it's your duty to always know where he (or she) is. Period." Flanked by a pair of Secret Service agents, Eddie Eagle made it clear that his message is intended for school children only. " As far as the NRA is concerned, adults shooting other adults is a constitutionally protected right".

Asked what caliber firearm he was using at the time of the mishap, Cheney indicated that it was just a "....tiny ole thing. Hell, when I was a kid we'd shoot each other with these things all the time."It's been reported that Cheney was using a 28-gauge shotgun — a popular size for hunting small birds. Approximately 200 pellets hit the victim, normally an impossibility, given that caliber shotgun shell at 30 yards. "But, Dick is a hell of a shot. At that range, with what we'd been drinkin' - hell", quipped Whittington.

An agitated Elmer Fudd, the third member of the hunting party, declined to give an opinion on the wisdom of hunting anything "with such widdle cawibber buwwets", but did say, "It wasn't the Vice Pwesidents fauwt. You never cweep around quietwy wike that when hunting!"

Speaking from outside Walter Reed Hospital, injured hunter Harry Whittington said, "I am just relieved that the Vice President took it so well. What the hell was I thinkin', walking around quietly like that?"

You think Central Park is "nature".
You see nothing odd about the speed of an auctioneer's speaking.
You're paying $1,200 for a studio the size of a walk-in closet and you think it's a "steal".
You've been to New Jersey twice and got hopelessly lost both times.
You pay more each month to park your car than most people in the U.S. pay in rent.
You haven't seen more than twelve stars in the night sky since you went away to camp as a kid.
You go to dinner at 9 and head out to the clubs when most Americans are heading to bed.
Your closet is filled with black clothes.

You pay $5 without blinking for a beer that cost the bar 28 cents.
You take fashion seriously.
Being truly alone makes you nervous.
You have 27 different menus next to your telephone.
Going to Brooklyn is considered a "road trip".
America west of the Hudson is still theoretical to you.

You're suspicious of strangers who are actually nice to you.
You secretly envy cabbies for their driving skills.
You think $7.00 to cross a bridge is a fair price.

Your favorite movie has DeNiro in it.
You consider eye contact an act of overt aggression.
You run when you see a flashing "Do Not Walk" sign at the intersection.
You're 35 years old and don't have a driver's license.
You ride in a subway car with no air conditioning just because there are seats available.
You're willing to take in strange people as roommates simply to help pay the rent.

You know the differences between all the different Ray's Pizzas.
When you're away from home, you miss "real" pizza and "real" bagels.
You're not in the least bit interested in going to Times Square on New Year's Eve.
Your internal clock is permanently set to know when Alternate Side of the Street parking regulations are in effect.
You know what a bodega is.
You know how to fold the New York Times in half, vertically, so that you can read it on the subway or bus without knocking off other passenger's hats.
Someone bumps into you, and you check for your wallet.
You cringe at hearing people pronounce Houston St. like the city in Texas.
Film crews on your block annoy you, not excite you.

Friendship
Read this in a friend's blog, thought I would share her words, what she had to say:

Friendship (according to Wikipedia): Friendship is a human relationship that involves mutual knowledge, esteem and affection. Friends will welcome each other's company and exhibit loyalty towards each other, often to the point of putting the other's interests before one's own. Their tastes will be similar and may converge, and they will share enjoyable activities. They will also engage in mutually helping behavior, such as exchange of advice and the sharing of hardship.

Did you know that the less you associate with some people, the more your life improves? You know the people I mean - I'm sure you've had some of them in your life at one time or another - perhaps even now. Perhaps you may even BE one of those people. The people who are going nowhere with their lives; not doing anything to improve their situation; content to remain where they are; stagnant. Some of these people never have a positive thing to say about anyone or anything. Their lives are boring and mundane and they've resolved, whether consciously or sub-consciously, to accept their existence in it's current condition. They sometimes make excuses for this condition, attempting to explain their status in life. However, ultimately, they are still in the same situation they were in last year and the year before, still complaining about the same things.

Did you know that any time you tolerate mediocrity in others, it increases your mediocrity? You've heard the phrase, "Birds of a feather flock together", and "One bad apple spoils the whole bunch". If you allow people into your life who exhibit mediocrity, stinking thinking and overall bad will, not only will others view you as possessing those same attributes, but eventually, those attributes will invade your thinking, your life, your spirit. Others will begin to avoid you – for the same reasons you should avoid the people who exhibit those traits. You may love them; you may care for them, but if you wish to move on, many times, you must let them go.

As you grow, hopefully your associates will change, or grow also, in their own way- unless you share common attributes. Sometimes, the worst enemy of friendships is change by one or both friends. Some of your friends will not want you to change – to move forward. They will want you to stay where they are. Friends that don't help you climb will want you to crawl, or become stagnant with them. And while you remain stagnant or continue to crawl, those same friends may begin to climb. Your friends will either stretch your vision or choke your dream. Those that don't increase you will eventually decrease you.

Consider this: You should never receive counsel from unproductive people. Never discuss your problems with someone incapable of contributing to the solution, because those who never succeed themselves, are always first to tell you how (go figure). Not everyone has a right to speak into your life. You are certain to get the worst of the bargain when you exchange ideas with the wrong person.

Don't follow anyone who's not going anywhere. With some people you spend an evening; with others you invest it. Be careful where you stop to inquire for directions along the road of life – your destination may be completely different from that of the person offering the direction.

"A mirror reflects a man's face, but what he is really like is shown by the kind of friends he chooses."

As a friend, I am willing to "be there". I am willing to listen to you, to cry with you, to pray with you; I will laugh with you, and I will just be silent with you. I pray that I will uplift you and empower you. I will assist you, in whatever way I can, in becoming the best "you" that you can be. I will offer advice when I can, and if I believe that you are taking a wrong path, I will risk our friendship to let you know. If I cannot be a positive influence in your life, I will actively and progressively remove myself from your life - and that I will do, as a friend.

The simple but true fact of life is that you become like those with whom you closely associate - for the good and the bad.

Is it time to re-evaluate??

Make a day of it...at least once a month
I have this weakness. Okay, I have a lot of them, but right now I'm going to talk about one in particular. It's about spending money.

Despite my commitment to a simplified life, I still manage to hemorrhage cash some days. I love to order delivered food, and I can piss away hundreds at Amazon. So I should tell myself to buckle down and quit it, right? Nah, that never works. Instead, I've set aside special days for particular vices, so my spending is kept to a low rumble.

For example, if left to my own devices, I can spend a bit here and a bit there at Amazon, until I've dropped a down-payment on a small independent nation without even realizing it. Instead, I now have "Amazon Day". It occurs once a month, and I have a generous-but-reasonable spending limit.

For the rest of the month, I put things in my wishlist or cart and just leave them there until the 15th.

Best of all, I don't have to think about any of this stuff. I decide on the day and the frequency, then I put it in my calendar and forget about it. I know it's coming, and when it does, it's like a sweet little reward for being fiscally responsible.

Personality Test
As if I wasn't feeling shitty enough...look what this test has to say....UGH!!!

Apparently I dont have a good work ethic, I am vain, I am a controller and to make matters worse I am a FEMALE CLICHE?!?!?!?! What in the world does that mean? ooooh I guess I just have to laugh it off!

Stability results were medium which suggests you are moderately relaxed, calm, secure, and optimistic.

Orderliness results were moderately high which suggests you are, at times, overly organized, reliable, neat, and hard working at the expense of flexibility, efficiency, spontaneity, and fun.

Extraversion results were high which suggests you are overly talkative, outgoing, sociable and interacting at the expense too often of developing your own individual interests and internally based identity.
trait snapshot:
clean, self revealing, open, organized, outgoing, social, enjoys leadership and managing others, dominant, makes friends easily, does not like to be alone, assertive, hard working, finisher, optimistic, positive, likes to stand out, likes large parties, respects authority, practical, high self esteem, perfectionist, dislikes chaos, busy, not familiar with the dark side of life, controlling, high self control, traditional, tough, likes to fit in, conforming, brutally honest, takes precautions

Olympics
When it comes to the Olympics, I am a total sap. Strangely enough, even though I don't have an athletic bone in my body, I get this rush of pride when the United States wins a medal or an underdog wins when no one though they could. I love the idea that these games bring countries together. Even for just a week or two. I get a little teary when that flag enters the Olympic stadium. Told ya...sap. I've tried to talk myself out of my sappiness, it just doesn't work.

Highlights:

Hammer man - What a cool job to get to beat this anvil and watch huge fireballs fly out of it. Glad he wore a mask though. Talk about singed eyebrows!

The Olympic Rings - Though it took me a minute to figure out exactly what these huge circles were (when people were hanging from them) once they turned them sideways and shone the different colored spotlights on them - WOW! Those were one of my favorite features.

Not sure if I like the new medals. To me, they look like big CDs. Not rings

Personally, I will be looking forward to watching:

Speed skating
Bobsled
Luge
Figure skating
and the ultimate winter sport
...CURLING!

Veddy interesting...
Went to my doctor today, and according to him, I lost a little weight over the last few weeks. Hmmm, guess these kiddies making me sick is taking its toll...but, hey, go ME!
For getting sick miraculously losing 6 pounds!!!!!

Unfortunately, I seem to have lost it all in the ass!!!!! LOL LOL
It's not all gone, there is still a bump where a mound use to be!!! But oooh well, I guess its on me to continue well on my way to carrying on the family tradition of toppling over.
