well...

Would you massage my feet?

Make me risotto?

Peel my nectarine?

Hem my pants?

Schedule my dentist appointment?

Wait for my cable guy?

Answer my e-mails?

Weed my garden?

Tell me stories?

Tuck me in bed?

Awww...come on!

no talking...

Note to my amigos...
If it seems like I'm not around as much, it's because I've been coming home exhausted. Summer school is intense.

Communication with JC has been close to nil. In fact, last week we spoke, nope I take that back, we chatted once. He has pulled away from me.

Right before I went to visit him in Orlando, JC would call 3-4 times a week. In our last conversation, he asked me to slow down. “Neyda, slow down” he said. Slow down? Slow down at what, slow down to what? I never divulged how or what I was feeling to him. I never put into words what was stirring inside me of. HA, I thought…was he telling himself to ‘slow down’ by simply putting into words what he was feeling and directing it towards me?

Just thinking out loud...not really looking for answers...

chocolate dipped...

It looks like I dipped my ten fingers and ten toes in chocolate...what a tempting sight. Anyone want a taste?

Getting my nails and feet done is one way that I pamper myself. It’s at least 2 hours of my life where I am not doing anything for anyone else. Rosa does such a wonderful job of spoiling me and making me feel special. Her hand and foot massages work wonders. I get to close my eyes and meditate. The stillness and quietness of that short period of time allows me to leave the nail salon cool and composed.

All is good on this rainy, stormy, thunderous afternoon in Miami.

why??

Last night I received a phone call from JC's [my college sweetheart] sister Jackie. I hadn't heard from Jackie in over 20+ years. She and I were super tight back in the day when I use to go home with JC during the summers and on breaks.

Anywho, Jackie and I spoke on the phone. I also got to speak to JC's mama... I started crying... I was taken back to a place in my life when everything was ohh so right! We caught up on our lives, we exchanged cell numbers and emails. Jackie is planning on coming down to Miami with her daughter for a visit this summer and mama invited the boys and I up to Spartanburg, SC.

Question? Why did she call after all these years? What made her pick up the phone and reach out? JC hadn't mentioned to them that he and I had seen one another in Orlando. Could they have felt our energies reuniting once again?

I know what I think...but then again I may be wrong...

faith

A sense of impending doom, hope and chance stared me in the face while sitting in the medical centers’ waiting room. I gazed into each of the women's faces. They sat there waiting for their name to be called. Each face had a story; each expression was different from the rest. One woman was in tears; another held her rosary and said her prayers…the couple sitting next to me held hands. They had to have been in their late 60’s or 70’s. He consoled her and gave her a kiss on her hand, what a tender moment that was…

I sat there and silently prayed. I was nursing a cup of hot black coffee, trying to hold back my tears. My sister was an emotional mess, this time the biopsy results would be closely attended to and would be rushed for analysis by the pathology department.

She’s been in there for more than an hour. Within that hours time, my daddy, my older sis, Antonio & Andre called. They wanted to know whether she was out yet…I didn’t have anything new to tell them…so I hung up, meditated, and downed over 6 cups of coffee…all different varieties, hazelnut, vanilla, espresso, and cappuccino. At one point, I just closed my eyes and I called upon the love and mercy of God…I asked Him to restore my faith…and make Mayra well.

We left today with high hopes that ALL will be fine. The doctor and nurse that were with her gave her hope that the nodules/masses/cysts were too circular and much too defined to be cancer…BUT with our family history, one can’t ever be too sure.

*SIGH*

I am coming off my caffeine high…I am feeling lethargic...

I couldn't sleep last night..story of my life, right? So I did my usual net surfing. I came across "the genital arts" page ... it peeked my interest.

Don't go there if you are easily offended and can't take the visual of genitals! You've been warned. If you do enjoy art in a natural form, you should check out Citarre's The Genital Arts site for lady landscapes and a few cock shots as well.

It's raw... I enjoyed the photos and their interpretations.

7:30 am this morning the phone rings, it's my daddy ... his shaky baritone voice begins singing ...

"happy birsday tu ju, happy birsday tu ju, happy birsday Neyyyyyyda, happy birsday tu ju"

I start to laugh, and tell him "gracias Daddy, your the first one to call, in fact, your a month early". He chuckles a little then becomes all apologetic and asks me if I am sure, its July 8th right? I said "si viejo, my date hasn't changed, but we're still in June".

That got me to thinking about growing older...he's hitting 76, and I will be 46 in exactly a month from today. As I laid in the bed, yes, I am on vacation, I can lay in bed at 7:30 or even at 1:30 if I want to...I began to think of all the things I've accomplished or haven't in my years on this Earth. I started taking stock, an inventory of sorts, of my life. I realized that I am at a happy place, most of the time. I live a balanced life; stresses come and go as much as moments of joy and laughter. I don’t have everything that my heart desires, but that’s okay. Life is cyclical, I will have what’s mine in due time. There’s time for everything under the sun as they say, or is there?

I must admit one fear that I have, one of my major concerns in life is that I will grow old alone. I am the mother of two young men…two young men that at some point will fall in love, get married, have children and move away to live their own lives. With that being said, where does that leave me? Alone…I know, you’re probably saying ‘Neyda, your smart, cute you’ll never be alone” uh duh, I am alone now, I feel I’m missing out on a lot...

I miss companionship...I miss pillow talks...I miss fussing over the toilet seat being up...I miss hugging a warm body in bed...I miss making two cups of coffee in the morning...I miss arguing over the remote...I miss holding hands...I miss the smack on the ass while I’m brushing my teeth...I miss pop kissing before leaving for work...I miss spooning...I miss rubbing my feet on his leg...I miss being held...I miss sharing...I miss being told I’m beautiful...I miss being loved...

I’m fed-up, tired of feeling alone when I close my bedroom door at night. I want to feel loved dammit!!

I don't want to feel like the man in "Memories of My Melancholy Whores" I don't want to glide along in life I want to live the zestfulness of it with my companion.

Whoa, this post wasn’t meant to take this route…guess I'm just another woman with issues.

SIGH...

I guess there’s no controlling what’s meant to be said...I'm going to get dressed and head out for a drive...

Someone once told me a story, about these little jars...glass jars with corked tops...that women would use to collect their tears in while their loves were away at sea or at war or on a journey.

Tears are heavy...tears are cleansing...tears are symbolic...tears are the mind, body and soul’s way to express what can’t be said, what can't be put into words. Pure unadulterated emotion and love in a tiny glass vase, worn around the neck, tapping close to the heart as a battle is won, a discovery is made, a destiny reached. The tiny jars are overflowing today.

My little jars are all labeled. One for loves lost. One for friends found. One for coffee spilled. One for the laundry I must fold. One for things I should have done. One for people I never met. One for the stain on my rug. One for the baby books I should have kept. One for the shampoo I ran out of. One for the socks I can’t match. One for babies I did not have. One for the men I love. One for the women I adore.

The jars are clinking and cluttering my mind as I shake off the cobwebs. A river release, a ragging torrent, a tsunami is underway and I’m letting it flow through my life freely not pushing it, not rushing. It’s temporary, this I know...a few more days and the seasonal stream will be gone.

I don’t fear these tears. I don’t have any ill will toward the jars collecting. I’m laughing and I have no doubt I’ll emerge to sweep those tiny jars off my counters and tables with a mighty crash...maybe, just maybe saving a few to remind me where I was-but not before defiantly crunching them into the ground.

cool word

This was one of my assignments today. I had to create a cool word, I used my name, I think my name is pretty cool.

The second day of my workshop was.... can we say, just a lil boring! We could have gotten through all of this stuff during the a.m. part UGH!! I guess the district needs to be accountable and justify every second, every minute, every penny that goes to and fro...a few of us tried to finagle leaving earlier and we were shot down!!!

I've felt really ' ho hum' today. Perhaps its the rain...perhaps it's because I haven't heard from JC. I say that the 'perhapses' got me down, yup, they're at fault.

I haven't taught summer school in 10 years. but, this year, it's only for 20 school days and the extra income will definitely come in handy. Anyways, today I attended a workshop that introduced the curriculum I'll be teaching for the summer. It's only a two day gig and they're paying us a stipend of $175 a day for the training, so what the FUCK, its worth it, right?

I truly didn't think that I would enjoy myself, so I brought a book and my iPod with me to pass the time. Well, wasn't I pleasantly surprised when my entire day just flew by. I will be housed in the technology lab with ONLY 15 rising 3rd grade students that tested very low in reading/math..for the ENTIRE DAY!!

The name of the program is Zoom In Zoom Out. The students will get to use digital microscopes and cameras to investigate and report on natural objects. They will also utilize mathematics, science and language arts skills by taking pictures, reducing objects to scale, combining images and different scales, and journaling. IT'S GOING TO BE GREAT!!! The district is providing me with 32 flash drives, a scanner, two digital cameras, a color laser printer, and kick ass software to assist the students.

During our training today, a couple of the teachers were LOST IN SPACE, there is NO way in hell that you can implement this curriculum without being tech savvy! In fact, one of the instructors told two of the teachers that she was going to have to speak to their principal, because they JUST weren't going to be able to carry out the program. These teachers didn't even know what a flash drive was!

Oh, before i forget...I made a new friend! It's funny how I attract men of color. Story of my life. My mother use to say that I was a magnet of sorts. Is it my 'flava' that attracts them? HA HA HA Really, go ahead and laugh, cuz that's what the teacher sitting next to me told me today. "Mami, I knew there was something about you, you have that 'flava'" I had to truly contain my laughter. I have to give the brotha credit, though, he was trying to get brownie points with Miss Flava here! LOL LOL

Well, I'm off to take a nice warm shower, wash my hair, shave my legs and EAGERLY wait for my Chinese food. I didn't feel like cooking today, hell I am on FUCKIN' vacation. Sheeeeit, I don't have to do anything I don't want to!

another chance??

The above caption says what I've been feeling ... except for the 40 year bit...my time has been more like 28 years give or take. Our love affair started back in December 1979, our freshman year in college.

I was excited and yes, quite the eager beaver to see JC once again, I was in 'basketcase' mode simply because HE is and will ALWAYS be the LOVE of my LIFE. I wasn't prepared to deal with all the emotions and passion that HE brought with him, even though I willingly gave in return ALL he bared to me.

One thing the caption above didn't have was the opportunity to be with the love of their life once again. How many people are given THAT chance? Another chance to love and be with the person that opened the door TO love.

VERY BIG SIGH

What does this mean for me?

Well, for now, IT IS WHAT IT IS...and I will keep repeating that to myself.

I'm still glistening from all of the affection and the love. My sister said that I had a twinkle in my eye, a radiance about me...one that she hadn't seen in a very long time. Funny I thought to myself, I felt that twinkle come to life, the minute I laid my eyes on JC again.
